It's had a few names... Australian Intuitive Role Playing Game Australian Universal Role Playing Game Intuitive Role Playing Game (for an non-denominational feel) It started after a number of emails, and letters to Zarlaw magazine... all regarding silly rules in this game or that game. It was around 14 months prior to D&D 3.0 and many were for the D&D system. When the 'coversation' in editorials had become so lengthy it needed a chapter of it's own we decided to tabulate the questions and suggestions from the readers and started seeing a very clear message. Rules upon rules upon rules beget a system that clanks around louder than a dwarf with three sets of dwarvern plate on. They are fine for munchkins and hack and slashers, but most role players were heading off to LARPs becuase there are too many damned rules - I want to role play! Hmmmm there has to be a happy medium. We felt that Amber was good but too far in the roleplaying direction and the hack and slashers would miss out. The rules were starting to come together with a few base premises:- 1. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid! 2. It should be easy to be good but HARD to be great 3. One rating (score system) for all skills and abilities. 0 is non existant, 1 is bad and 10 is AWESOME! 4. If in doubt of having a rule, see rule 1. After playtesting we realised we may need a larger number to set the scores between, so experiments were used with 0-15 and 0-20 Once 3rd edition came out it lost momentum. But with the unbelievable amount of books out now for D&D 3.0 and the later release of 3.5 the grumbling came back. So maybe it's time to revisit the system of the people (no we are NOT going to call it S.O.P. ::P) For now all topics will be using AUSRPG as the header to follow rule 1 ,)
